Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 112

Lot 1116

1860-D. PCGS graded AU-55. Well struck for this rare low mintage issue. Plenty of mint luster presented with delicate toning. The U(NITED) is always weak, in this case just a shadow exists. For identification there is a small nick on the bridge of Liberty's nose, the surfaces are clean in general though. These were all struck with a single pair of dies in 1860, from the original issue only about 100 exist today according to CoinFacts. This date and mint are known to be the worst struck of the Dahlonega Gold Dollars, but this coin shows more definition than usually seen. One of the key dates to the Gold Dollar series, and high grade examples are in feverish demand when offered. Only 1,566 struck. Pop 12; 24 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 7556) Estimate Value $5,000 - UP

Realized $10,200
