Photograph Signed ("C. de Gaulle") on the lower border of a three-quarter portrait in uniform, 10 x 8 inches. Stamped on the verso, "Howard Coster…London," which probably indicates that the photograph was taken c. 1940-42 when de Gaulle was in London leading the French resistance during World War II. De Gaulle is famous for his statement, "L'état c'est moi" (I am the state).
