Lot 109

1837 N-5 R2 Plain Hair Cord, Small Letters PCGS graded MS64 Brown, CAC Approved. Choice frosty light to medium brown. The surfaces are lustrous and this cent offers excellent eye appeal. Looks choice mint state to the unaided eye, but a glass reveals a hint of rub on the highest points of the devices. The best identifying marks are a tiny diagonal nick under the lower right point of star 1 and a speck of reddish brown toning at the leaf over the right top of the T in CENT. LDS. The fields on both sides are flowlined, the earlier die line connecting the bases of the I & T in UNITED is gone, and a subtle wave in the field shows at S-OF. Our grade is AU58+, very close to mint state. Noyes says MS60 and tied for CC#5, his photo #25736. The attribution and Koshkarian provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 4; 4 finer, 2 in 65, 1 in 65+, 1 in 66 for the variety. Estimate Value $1,200 - UP
