Lot 1084

1843. PCGS graded Proof 64. Boldly struck with a hint of light even tone on both sides especially around the rims. This is an incredibly rare issue with only 10 struck, with 6 to 8 examples estimated to have survived by PCGS Pop Report. This is one of the finer examples known today with glittering mirror fields and frosted devices. The surfaces show only a few trivial signs of handling, nothing to distract the eye, and of course, the incredible sharp strike expected. At the time these were coined, Proofs were not available to the general public, and production was extremely limited. Today these are the equivalent to numismatic caviar, seldom seen or offered, and always put away into advanced collections often for decades as a time. If you have ever desired one of these early delicacies then be prepared to do battle when this one crosses the auction block, another opportunity to buy an 1843 proof quarter may be years away. Pop 2; 2 finer, 1 in 64+, 1 in 65. (PCGS # 5537) Value $25,000 - UP
