1795 S-76a/b R1 Plain Edge but Thick Planchet VG10. Sharpness VF25 but dark and covered with fine to moderate roughness. No notable verdigris, only small contact marks. The notable marks are a rim nick over the E in LIBERTY and a short scratch in the field under the cap. Rather glossy dark olive brown with lighter chocolate toning on the devices. EDS. Struck on a heavy planchet that weighs 204.0 grains, closer to the thick planchet standard of 208.0 grains rather than the thin planchet standard of 168.0 grains. Apparently this was a thick planchet that did not receive the edge lettering prior to being struck. An interesting piece and quite rare. Estimated Value $400-UP
