Lot 101
1834 N-2 R1 Small 8, Large Stars, Medium Letters PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown. Lustrous mint red fading to light bluish steel brown with nearly half the mint color remaining on both sides. No spots or stains. The only marks are a tiny scuff near the dentils under star 3 and another vertical one down from the left point of star 11. Neither mark is visible without a strong glass and the eye appeal of this cent is outstanding. M-LDS. The die crack that meanders through STA and the wreath has an extension up to the base of the first A in AMERICA, and the tiny spikes up from the dentils under the date are gone. There is a dull double profile on the nose and stronger doubling on RTY in LIBERTY (all caused by die bounce). A curved planchet clip affects the dentils between the date and star 1 and the opposing dentils over TA in STATES. A beautiful cent and an obvious mint error. Graded MS63 and tied for CC#4 in the Noyes census, his photo #20533. Graded MS70- by Ted Naftzger when he owned the coin. Our grade is MS64. The attribution and Koshkarian provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; tied for finest of the variety at both services. Estimate Value $3,500 - UP
