Lot 952

1793 Flowing Hair Cent. Chain reverse, "AMERI." in legend. . S-1, r-4. NGC graded Fine-15 Brown. Sharpness F15 but there are several light pinscratches on the obverse, strongest in the field before the face. These scratches do not alter the toning and offer only a minor distraction to otherwise smooth, corrosion-free surfaces. The only other notable defect is a small planchet fissure at the rim over the LI in LIBERTY, as struck. Glossy steel brown and chocolate with frosty lighter brown toning in protected areas. The date is clear, although it is never as strong as the other design elements because it was lightly punched into the die. The reverse is sharper than the obverse, as usual, and those design elements are bold. E-MDS, Breen die state II, with swelling at the top of the U in UNITED. EAC grade net VG10+, close to F12. The AMERI feature is noted on the NGC label.
Estimated Value $20,000 - 30,000.
