Lot 93

1802 S-230 R1. PCGS graded MS-62 Brown. Glossy tan and light brown blending to chocolate brown on the highpoints. Frosty mint luster covers the fields and protected areas on both sides and this cent has great eye appeal. No spots or stains, and the only notable mark is a light nick at the hairline low on the neck. Looks mint state but there is a touch of rub on the highest points of the devices. M-LDS, Breen state VIII, with obvious die rust around the date and in the field before the portrait plus die cracks on the reverse. The failure in the dentils under the 18 has not occurred. Graded AU50 and CC#2 in the Noyes census, his photo #35036. Bland says AU55 and CC#2. Our grade is AU55. The attribution and Doug Bird Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 63. (PCGS # 36302) Value $8,000 - UP
