Russian Lacquer Boxes: Stunning Hand Painted Box Inspired by one of Konstantin Makovskiy's Greatest Works. 1.) Konstantin Makovskiy (1839-1915). One of the most influential painters of the late 19th Century, showed an idealized view of Russian life of prior centuries, with beautiful female subjects in elaborate apparel. "Girl at the Fireplace" is one of his most celebrated works; a beautiful maiden in Russian sarafan and kokoshnik sits by the fireplace. From Fedoskino, an artist has reproduced this masterwork with astonishing artistry by hand and one of the best in auction. It comes with a COA, something we do not often see. 1½ x 7 x 5" and is in excellent condition noting a few rubs on lip where lid meets box, four felt dots on base, the image itself without issues. 2.)2.) A very fine long rectangular lacquer box from Kohuli of a banquet scene and religious imagery of impressive boasting spectacularly colored details and beautiful gold painted scroll work. In near to mint condition with only the slightest evidence of crazing, not at all visible without a loop. Both impressive pieces worthy of a Romanov. Estimated Value $600 - UP
