The village of Turners Falls was founded in 1868 by Alvah Crocker, who envisioned using the Connecticut River to create hydropower in order to lure industry. He would also be the first President of this bank that was chartered in October 1872. This is one of only two 1902 Date Backs currently known, both Fives, and the finer of the two.
