Sale 98

Lot 645

1853 N-10 R1 Repunched 18 PCGS graded MS66 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Lustrous bluish steel and olive brown with 25% of the original mint color remaining. This cent offers great eye appeal and it is nearly flawless. The only defects, and they are trivial, are a few barely visible specks of darker steel toning on both sides, a very shallow low spot on the neck (caused by debris on the die), and a light nick in the field just right of the main curl. MDS, die state b. The delicate repunching on the date is visible, clearest inside the top of the 8. Our grade is MS64. Pop 18; 2 finer in 66+. Estimate Value $1,500 - UP
Ex John Oliver, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 6/2014:104-Marc Padre Collection (lot ticket included).

Realized $1,880
