Lot 598

1853 N-22 R2+ Repunched 18 PCGS Graded MS64 Brown. Lustrous light olive and chocolate with slightly faded red covering the protected areas on both sides. Possibly lightly dipped long ago, but the toning is very attractive and this cent offers excellent eye appeal. The only marks are a speck of carbon in the middle of the bust and a tiny tick on the rim left of the end of the wreath ribbon. Rare very early die state (VEDS), die state a early. The repunching on the 18 is sharp and the fine die lines are crisp. Not in the overall condition census for the variety but tied for CC#1 of the earliest die state. Our grade is MS60+. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 1 finer in 65BN. Estimate Value $500 - UP
