Lot 595

1853 N-18 R1 PCGS graded MS65 Brown. Beautiful lustrous medium steel brown and olive with traces of mellowed mint red showing on both sides. The only marks are two mint-made planchet flakes: a small one at the upper left point of star 10 and a larger one in the field right of the main curl. Otherwise this cent is a flawless gem. E-MDS, die state a. The two dashes under the 8 are clear and most of the early die lines around the portrait are visible. Our grade is MS62+, very close to MS63. Tied for CC#12 in the Grellman census. Comes with a nice provenance. The attribution and Twin Leaf Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Pop 2; tied for the finest MSBN examples graded at both services for the variety. Estimate Value $800 - UP
