Sandy Koufax, Historic Perfect Game September 9, 1965 at Dodger Stadium. Koufax, perfect game by retiring 27 consecutive batters without allowing any to reach base, and becoming the sixth pitcher of the modern era, eighth overall, to throw a perfect game. In fact his record stood until Nolan Ryan in 1981. Koufax's triumph is regarded by many as the greatest game ever pitched.
