1793 S-9 Wreath Cent PCGS P/FR Details Devices Engraved. Type with a Vine & Bars Edge. Glossy light olive and chocolate brown. The surfaces are smooth and basically this is just a heavily worn Sheldon-9 Wreath Cent that has had the hair strengthened. The level of engraving skill displayed here is not up to the level of the famous "Smith Counterfeits," and only the hair details have been disturbed. To call this a product of Mr. Smith would do a disservice to the man's memory. The date is complete and easily readable as is LIBERTY, but most of the devices on the reverse are worn smooth. Very late die state. The die crack and swelling at ICA is quite advanced. Our grade is Basal State-1. Weight 186.1 grains. The attribution and Doug Bird Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label (PCGS # 1347) Estimated Value $200 - UP
Source not recorded-Douglas F. Bird Collection.
