Lot 479

1857 N-5 R5+ Small Date Proof-Only PCGS graded PR64 Brown. Dark olive brown and chocolate with lighter brown toning on the portrait that gives this cent a "cameo" look. Hints of underlying very faded show in protected areas on the reverse. No notable marks but a microscopic speck of lighter golden red toning on a single dentil left of star 1 may help identify this cent. The fields are reflective but the mirrors are not deep. Struck with a minor knife rim on the left side of the obverse and lower part of the reverse. Our grade is Proof-62, tied for CC#8 in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; 1 finer in 66. Estimated Value $5,000 - UP
