US Military : Rare Halloween Cover Canceled on USS Pennsylvania, Operation Crossroads Atomic Bomb Test, Letter by LCDR "Bull" Tobin. Three fine pieces relating to US Military, Mid-20th Century
Typed letter signed by LCDR Frederick Joseph "Bull" Tobin (1892-1978) survivor of two airship disasters, Dirigible Shendoah (1925) where he rode the airship in the tail section when it crashed. Hindenburg (1937) Tobin found himself under the airship securing the mooring lines when it exploded with him and his crew being credited for saving some 35 lives.
Rare Halloween cover postmarked October 31, 1935 aboard the USS Pennsylvania. The ship later survived the attack on Pearl Harbor having been in dry dock. This is a remarkably rare piece and in this condition, a near miracle.
Advance postmark June 30, 1946 for the July 1, 1946 cover for the First Atomic Bomb Test at Bikini. A very scarce full color Fluegel cover in virtually mint condition. Estimated Value $300 - 600
