Lot 464

1856 N-18 R1 Italic 5 PCGS graded MS63 Brown. Frosty bluish steel and olive with underlying very faded mint color covering at least 10% of both sides. May have been dipped long ago but the toning and eye appeal of this cent are excellent. The only notable mark is a small spot of darker toning (not carbon) on the rim at star 12. E-MDS, die state b early. The lines at the throat are clear but the fine line down through the R in AMERICA is gone. Our grade is MS60, tied for CC#13 in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 4 finer: 3 in 64, 1 in 65+. Estimated Value $400 - UP
Ex Doug Bird 11/19/1994-Colonel Steven K. Ellsworth Collection.
