Galle, Johann Gottfried: German Astronomer who Identified the Planet Neptune in 1846, Scarce, Autographed Letter Signed (1812-1910) Johann Gottfried Galle, German astronomer at the Berlin Observatory who, on 23 September 1846, with the assistance of student, was the first person to view the planet Neptune and identify it as such. He later became Professor of Astronomy in Breslau for 45 years. Letter signed on postal card postmarked Potsdam 1906. In very fine condition, his penmanship and signature, given it was written in his mid-90s, is flawless. Very scarce. Estimated Value $500 - 900
