Non-US Composers, 9 Musical Quotations Signed and 1 ALS: Gounod, MacKenzie, Straus, Malipiero, Friml, Savino and Chaminad. Beautiful collection of 19th-20 Century European composers.
1.) Scottish composer A. C. MacKenzie (1847-1935) an ornately penned AMQS matted with photo on Royal Academy of Music, London letterhead, 8 x 5"
2.) French composer Charles Gounod (18-1893) noted for his opera "Faust". Fine ALS in pencil 1p in French dated 1881 to the Duke D'Aunial in part "Well if my memory serves me correctly, this makes the fifth time that Chantilly has declined! When we get to ten, we'll mark it with a cross…….Just hang on and we will have done with this evil imp which pursues me everywhere.
3.) Italian composer Gian Francesco Malipiero (1882-1973) AMQS dated 1935 Asolo, Italy Prelude Julius Cesare, 3¾ x 4½" on card stock
4.) Czech/American composer of operettas and musicals, Rudolf Friml (1879-1972) AMQS boldly signed on 3 x 5 card dated 1959. His hits include Rose-Marie, The Vagabond King and several songs made famous by Nelson Eddy.
5.) Italian conductor, symphony recording artist who famously brought Rudolph Valentino to America. Dominico Savino (1882-1973) is credited with composing over 2500 published compositions. AMQS with many notations.
6.) Viennese composer Oscar Nathan Straus (1870-1954), no relation to the musical Strauss family, whose best know work in The Chocolate Soldier and even composed for film including the masterpiece La Ronde. AMQS dated Hollywood 12/30
7.) French composer and the only woman in this collection. Cécile Chaminade (1857-1944) Chaminade affiliated herself with nationalist composers such as Camille Saint-Saëns and Charles Gounod. Her musical style was rooted in both Romantic and French tradition throughout her career AMQS, 4 x 6 and beautifully executed.
8.) Britain's Michael Tippett having a fine musical quotation by this celebrated, influential, modern classical composer executed on 3½ x 5" photo.
9.) British composer Michael Costa excellent musical quotation and includes his address at 59 Eccleston Square which still exists today and has a historic marker noting above the door as his residency from 1857-1883 in Wilton Court.
10.) Aussie/American composer Percy Granger signing one large large portrait with gorgeous musical quotation as well as a smaller portrait signed. Estimated Value $500 - 800
