Ionia. Phokaia. 625-522 BC. Electrum 1/6 Stater - Hekte (2.68g). Lion reclining left; above, a seal swimming left. Reverse: Rough quadrapartite incuse square. Bodenstedt Emission 27. Well centered and crisply struck. With some reddish-brown toning. A very fine and attractive example of this archaic rarity. Only 2 examples listed by Bodenstedt, although another in Peus 373 (10-30-02), lot 521, plus one more recently at Tkalec, Auk. 2005, lot 76. Choice Extremely Fine.
