1871 Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 65 Cameo. Stunning and vibrant blue and gold toning here, primarily on the obverse in well organized peripheral rings. An early strike as the dies were very well frosted when this one was coined, hence it has been awarded the coveted "Cameo" designation by PCGS. These Cameo and Deep Cameo proofs are very rare, for example, PCGS has graded 4 as Cameo and as single coin as Deep Cameo for 1871 quarters (5 in all), and 118 other regular proofs without this designation, to give the collector some idea of who rare these truly are. As to the Population Report, this is the finest of the 4 Cameos graded and alone at the top in the 65 grade. For the regular proof quarters of this date, 7 have been graded as PR-65, with 5 graded higher, all PR-66. Certainly one of the finest known of the date, and with such delightful toning it would be hard to imagine a more desirable example. The fields are very well mirrored, although we note a trace of die rust below the left wing of the eagle. Likely from long storage in a Wayte Raymond album, as toning this rich is seldom found at all, and never from any type of quick application! A gem for the connoisseur.
Estimated Value $2,500-UP.
