Islands off Thrace, Thasos, c. 525-463 BC. AR Stater (8.73 g). Satyr running right, carrying off nymph. Reverse: Quadripartite incuse square. Dewing 1316; Asyut 121. Large flan. Choice Very Fine.
Modern belief is that the rich silver deposits on the mainland of Thrace were utilized in the production of this substantial coinage.
