Kesselring, Albert (1885-1960) German field marshall active in all European and North African fronts; commander-in-chief of the West (1945); one of only 27 awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds. Imprisoned for war crimes from 1947 to 1952 when he was released due to ill health. Autograph Letter Signed ("Kesselring"), in German, one page on his personal letterhead, 8¼ x 5¾ in. Bad Wiessee Süd (Germany), Oct. 31, 1956. To an unidentified man, graciously offering the requested autograph. Fine. Bad Wiessee, a spa resort, was the scene of the Hitlerian Night of the Long Knives, June 30, 1934, when Hitler and the SS purged the leadership of the SA, many of whom were staying at the resort, including Ernst Rõhm.
