Lot 210

1803 S-249 R2 Corrected Denominator 100/000 PCGS graded VF20, CAC Approved. Attractive glossy medium chocolate brown with slightly lighter steel brown toning on the devices. No roughness or verdigris, only minor contact marks consistent with the grade. A light diagonal nick midway between the inner curl and the lower end of the hair ribbon is the best identifying mark. Extremely rare terminal die state (TDS) with a huge cud break connecting the bust to the rim in addition to the earlier cud at RIC. Both cuds are bold. Certainly one of the finest known of the TDS, and this is the plate coin for the state in the Breen encyclopedia. Our grade is F12. And it comes with a nice provenance. The attribution and Paschal-Reynolds provenance are noted on the PCGS Secure label. Estimate Value $1,000 - UP
Ex Dorothy I. Paschal-William R. T. Smith 4/1978-John D. Wright, 2004 EAC Sale, McCawley & Grellman Auctions 4/17/2004:229-Brett Dudek 6/2012-Tom Reynolds Collection (includes the Wright collection envelope).
