Four Original Vintage Souvenirs of Captivity Made by French Prisoners of War. Four items made by French prisoners of war, one during World War I and three during World War II. (1) A 2½ x 4" hinged tin box has "1914-1917" on the back. On the top is "Souvenir de Mon Exil" surrounding a lion and floral design; On the back is "Reml Moerman / Wasquehal. Nord France" surrounding a lovely floral design. (2) A wooden picture frame, 11½ x 15¾, decorated with a basket of flowers, headed by "Souvenir de Captivité" and with the date "1943" inside the basket's handle. Each corner has a butterfly with a gold-colored heart below, the one on the left with the initial "J" and the one on the right with "T". Two oval spaces in each lower corner were made to hold pictures. On the back of the frame is the name of the prisoner and other information: "Toublanc, Jean, No. 12714 VIB / Stalag VI.G. AK 725." Also, "aux Fontenelles / Liré M-el-Loire." Stalag VIB was a German POW camp near Heydekrug, Memelland (now Silute in Lithuania). Stalag VI G was a work camp for non-commissioned officers and enlisted men in the state of Saxony. (3) A small wooden picture frame, 8 x 6¼" is carved "15 juin 1941" at the top and "Souvenir de Captivité" at the bottom. Decorated with carved flowers. On the back is carved "Fait par un camarade du Nord Maurice Voisin." Below that is the date "1945" then "Odessa" and the date "1940". Along one side is "Dantz IC" and along the bottom "19 Stol 44." (4) A tin canteen cup, 3½ x 3½ x 1 5/8", the lettering created by using a very sharp utensil: "Guy Ginette / Souvenir de Luckenwalde / Denise / 1940." Decorated with a flower, a heart, and a bee. Bottom of the cup has a stamp, "Letang/1937/Paris." Luckenwalde was a German POW camp located in Brandenburg, 52 kilometers south of Berlin. Estimate Value $500 - UP
