1886 $1 Gold Indian. PCGS graded Proof 66. A gorgeous coin for the grade, and one of just 11 graded this high by PCGS, with a single coin graded higher by a point. Although 1,016 were coined in Proof, PCGS has only graded a total of 69 coins, where are all the others? It is very probable that most were melted, spent or lost, as the number graded by PCGS is usually around one half the proof mintage on other dates. Something to think about when formulating your bid. Rich orange gold in color and superb quality. Hairlines are at a minimum, and we note a lint mark up from the right end of the wreath towards the left to the rim above, and a straight tiny line connecting the two 8s in the date.
