Lot 199

1830 N-1 R1 Large Letters PCGS graded MS62 Brown. Lustrous medium brown and light chocolate with hints of underlying very faded mint color showing through in the fields and protected areas. There are small puffs of darker olive brown toning (not carbon) scattered over the right side of the obverse; otherwise this cent is choice. Looks mint state but there is a hint of friction on the highest points of the devices. M-LDS with a die crack through star 2 but no crack from the bust tip. The strike is soft on the tip of the coronet, top of the hair bun, stars, and on some of the leaves (as often seen on this variety). Our grade is AU55. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 4 finer: 1 in 63, 2 in 64, 1 in 65. PCGS #36937. Estimated Value $325 - UP
Ex Chris McCawley 4/1/2005-Chuck Hall Collection.
