Lot 141

1812 S-288 R2 Large Date. PCGS graded MS-64+ Red & Brown. CAC. Lustrous faded mint red mellowing to light olive and bluish steel brown. About half the planchet shows some of the faded mint color and the eye appeal of this cent is outstanding. Nearly flawless. The only notable marks are a spot of darker toning (not carbon) at the dentil tips over star 8, a smaller spot between star 13 and the dentils, and another on the leaf tip under the U in UNITED. LDS, Breen state III. The dentils on the reverse are gone. Our grade is MS63. A superior example of the Classic Head type of large cent. The attribution and Doug Bird Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; none finer and the only RB graded at PCGS. (PCGS # 36506) Value $50,000 - UP
