Lot 1077

1806. PCGS graded MS-64. Better than average strike for this Draped Bust style quarter. The surfaces have a pleasing light grey toning on both sides, with a few deeper flecks of color scattered about. The devices show excellent definition of the finer details on Liberty's hair curls, as well as on the eagle's wings. This is noteworthy given the later die state here where multiple die cracks are present on the reverse, and extensive rim crumbling noted on the upper edge of the reverse. This die must have been falling apart! These add to the already considerable charm of the present coin, and invite study and give numismatic pleasure to anyone who appreciates the early struggles of our Philiadelphia Mint. Pop 10; 5 finer, 2 in 64+, 3 in 65. (PCGS # 5314) Value $18,000 - 20,000
