1888 $2.50 Liberty. NGC graded Proof 64 Cameo. Mostly untoned. A flashy Proof cameo. A gorgeous and well struck near-Gem in a cameo-tagged PCGS holder. Generally bright gold in color with a hint of warm patina. The reverse has true cameo contrast, while the portrait comes close but lacks frost at the intersections of the neck. There are a few tiny lintmarks (as struck) but the surfaces are otherwise extremely clean. This is the first Proof of this date that we're seen in a number of sales. Only 97 Proofs were struck. That may explain why. Pop 8; 11 in 65 cameo; none finer at NGC.
