Heard - French Colonies in America

Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 208
1755-A French Colonial Sou Marque Vlack-351 Rarity-1 PCGS graded AU55. Frosty light silvery gray with darker steel gray toning on the devices. No marks or other defects, just a touch of friction on the highpoints. This variety has been identified by Vlack as a contemporary counterfeit that is nearly identical to the Paris Mint original. The variety is relatively common, but this piece was struck twice and was flipped over between those impressions. Both strikes were centered on the planchet. Undertype from the initial strike is evident on both sides, clearest in the centers. A neat piece. Listed on page 55 in the "Redbook." Estimate Value $200 - UP
