1808 S-278 R3 PCGS graded AU55, CAC Approved. Frosty light to medium brown with darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. Flowline luster covers the fields and protected areas and this cent offers excellent eye appeal. The notable marks are a puff of darker chocolate brown toning over the O in ONE with similar toning at TED ST. A tiny tick or planchet chip on the right top of the 0 in the date and a flat spot on the bust tip are good identifying marks, but they are barely visible under magnification. MDS, Breen state III, with a subtle depression from a die injury near the dentil tips from under the bust tip to star 4 where it fades away. A very nice cent with just a light touch of friction on the highest points of the devices. Graded EF45 net EF40 and tied for CC#19 in the Noyes census, his photo #37155. 1809 S-280 R2 PCGS graded XF45. The obverse is frosty medium brown and light chocolate with traces of lustrous tan in protected areas. The reverse is a darker shade of chocolate brown and steel with lighter toning at the tops of the legend outside the wreath caused by light contact or possibly recoloring that was limited to the reverse. The notable marks are a small diagonal nick between the date and star 13 and a shallow planchet flake between star 7 and the brow lock. MDS, Breen state VI early. There are die cracks at TE in STATES down into the top of the wreath with a very faint extension down to the left top of the E in ONE. The repunching on the 9 remains clear. Graded AU50 net EF45 and tied for CC#14 in the Noyes census, his photo #38988. Our grade is EF40 net VF35. The attribution and Boka-Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. 1810/09 S-281 R1 Overdate 10 over 09 PCGS graded AU58, CAC Approved. Frosty steel brown and chocolate with lighter brown and tan in protected areas on both sides. Underlying mint luster shows in the fields and protected areas and this cent offers excellent eye appeal. Just a hint of friction on the highest points from mint state. The notable marks are a faint scuff on the throat and another along the top of the legend outside the wreath that left lighter toning on the tops of those letters. MDS. The fields show fine radial flowlines but the overdate feature is obvious. Our grade is AU50 sharpness net EF45. The attribution and Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. No spots or corrosion, just light friction on the highpoints and a few contact marks. The only notable mark is a scratch up from the left edge of the L in LIBERTY to the rim above. M-LDS, Breen state III. The dies are worn, the fields are flowlined, most of the dentils are gone, and the inside part of the ear is flat from die polishing. Our grade is VF35+ sharpness net VF30. 1812 S-289 R1 Large Date PCGS graded XF40. Frosty medium chocolate brown and steel. Looks choice to the unaided eye but a glass reveals traces of microscopic roughness in protected areas, mostly under star 13 and on the reverse. No verdigris and the only notable marks are a collection of microscopic pinpricks in the center of the nose. Extremely rare (according to Breen) EDS, Breen state I, with clear repunching on the date, strongest at the left top of the 2. Struck with the reverse rotated 25 degrees clockwise relative to the normal head-to-foot die orientation. An attractive Turban Head cent in spite of the minor surface issues. Our grade is VF25+. 1812 S-290 R1 Small Date PCGS graded AU55. Very attractive lustrous olive brown and chocolate with ample frosty tan and light steel brown in protected areas, especially on the reverse. This cent has mint state eye appeal but there is some friction on the highpoints of the devices. No spots or stains, but there are a few light contact marks, mostly in the field before the portrait. The only notable mark is a dull, shallow scratch between star 5 and the nose. MDS. There are fine radial die flowlines in the fields on both sides but fine die polishing lines slanting up to the left are clearly visible around the date and stars 1-3. Our grade is AU50 net EF45. A nice cent that comes with a good provenance. The attribution and Husak-Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 3; 9 finer for the variety. PCGS #36499. The only marks are a very light rim bruise at NI in UNITED and a tiny planchet chip (as struck) at the dentils below the tip of the wreath ribbon, plus an even smaller planchet chip near the dentils above the head. M-LDS, Breen state IV, with several die cracks on the reverse. Both dies are worn, especially on the reverse where the top of the legend outside the wreath is merging with the rim. A very attractive cent with just a touch of friction on the highpoints. Our grade is net EF40+, close to EF45. The attribution and Holmes-Heard provenance are noted on the PCGS label. 1814 S-295 R1 Plain 4 PCGS graded AU50. Frosty chocolate brown with lighter steel brown toning in protected areas. Smooth and quite attractive with only trivial marks and very light wear on the highest points of the devices. A minor planchet flake at the lower left of the second 1 in the date (as struck) is a good identifying mark. Nicely struck E-MDS, Breen state III, with die clashmarks on both sides.
