Roman Judaea, 1st-2nd Century AD, Fine Glass Juglet with Trailed Thread Decoration. A single-handled juglet in colorless glass with ovoid body, tapering cylindrical neck, and wide, flat, everted rim. At side, an angular handle in trailed aubergine glass, along with a thin thread of aubergine trailing spirally around the body up to the base of the neck. Juglet is intact, with a few slight age cracks, yet vessel remains stable and sound. Some slight iridescence on the body, with two vivid patches on the handle. A choice, well-formed example of this popular collectible item. Height: 3¾".

Roman Judaea, Early 1st Century AD., Attractive Ribbed, Cast Bowl in Aqua Colored Glass. A rather thick-walled bowl, made by casting rather than blowing, featuring an exterior with "fire polish" and an interior that is finished by lapidary techniques. A less common type, with short ribs only along the upper exterior wall. Tondo ornamented by three incised concentric circles. Intact and absolutely free of typical cracks. Some slight, cleanable dirt, with pleasing transparent iridescence in fine greens, blues, and violets. Width: 6 1/8".

Of good size and blown in a fairly thick light green glass, this robust bottle has everted flange-like rim, a cylidrical neck and piriform body. Intact and perfect, with thick crusted iridescence ranging from shimmering blues, greens, lime, rust to coppery pink, but all within a golden matrix. Wonderfully colorful -- a veritable "moonscape" of hues. Height: 7¼". Estimate Value $500 - 800

Roman Judea, 1st-2nd Century AD., Blue Teardrop Bottle, Perhaps an Unguentarium. Bottle of narrow, piriform shape, with cylindrical neck slightly constricted at the base and flat everted rim. Glass in a cobalt blue. Bottle intact and perfect, with faint iridescence in areas. Bottle of pleasing, balanced shape, color rare and striking. Height: 3 5/8".

Roman Judaea, 1st-2nd Century AD., Lot of Two Stylish Unguentaria. Lot of two delicate long-necked bottles blown from clear and green glass. Similar in form, but the smaller features a flattened ovoid body, while the larger has a constricted neck and a hemispherical body with a deeply concave base. Both are intact and perfect. The smaller bottle has a translucent to nearly opaque white and silvery gold iridescence. The larger piece displays a brownish green to silver iridescence. A handsome pair, with distinctive shapes. Height: smaller 4½"; larger 8".

Roman Judaea, 1st-2nd Century AD., Flask with Bell-shaped Body. This very substantial bottle was blown from light green glass. Its mouth has a thick, rolled and everted rim and a narrow, slightly flaring neck that is attached to the rounded, flaring cone-shaped lower body. The base is very deeply concave. With thin, transparent iridescence, featuring appealing passages of bright green, magenta, and copper. Well proportioned and symmetrical. Intact and perfect. Said to have been found at Pergamon. Roman Judaea, 2nd-3rd Century AD, Large Green Glass Pitcher. The pitcher free blown with the body of broad drop-shape on folded high foot. The neck narrrows whilte the mouthis wide and funnel-like, folded to form a narrow channel. Decorative trailed rings at the neck and below the rim. Modest repair to a small part of the vessel's shoulder, otherwise, superb with magnificent iridescense - ranging from silver to green with subtle blues, magentas and violet hues. Vessels of this size are quite rare. Height: 8¾"

Fashioned of translucent, pale green glass, this large, symmetrical bottle has a flared rim over a decorative rib, long, cylindrical neck, and bulbous body ornamented by vertically oriented ribs. Roman Judaea, 2nd to 3rd Century AD., Iridescent Long Neck Bottle. A fine bell-body unguentarium in light green glass. The Broad discoid top has a rolled rim, and a long cylindrical neck with a constricted base set atop a short and widely flared cone-like body. The base is deeply concave. Intact and perfect, with choice transparent to translucent iridescence tending to greens, limes, and coppers, plus beautiful and bright green, red to light blue, along wiht soft shimmering creamy purple. Roman Judaea, 2nd-4th Century AD., Pale Green Bottle with Violet Trailed Thread Decoration Along the Neck. Pale green glass bottle with nearly spherical body, slightly concave at the base, and cylindrical neck subtly widening to the rim, which is only vaguely flared. Trailed thred decoration spirals around the central third of the neck, and has developed a striking iridescence. Passages of the body are likewise opalized, revealing sparkling, pearlized hues of peach, pink, lavender, blue, and green. Intact. Height: 5 1/8". Estimate Value $400 - 500

Roman Judaea, 3rd-5th Century AD, Ornately Handled Balsamarium. A stunning, very robust vessel fashioned from a tube of thick green glass with rolled rims at either end, then folded over at the center and heat joined. Folded trailings of thick, slightly darker glass project outwards at four sides, finishing with a strap-like bail handle at the top. Complete and perfect, with thick, opaque silvery iridescence, having lovely hints of blues, violets, greens, and occasional indigo. Exceptional and rare in this state of preservation. Height: 6/58". Roman Judaea, 3rd-4th Century AD, Sprinkler Flask. This blown flask in light green glass is rather thick and quite substantial in heft. The piriform body has six vertical ribs at regular intervals. The foot of the bottle consists of a ring of short, drawn out nubs. The mouth is wide and funnel shaped with and encircling flange beneath. Within the neck is a constricted ring and a small central opening designed to restrict the flow of the vessel's precious contents (perfumed oil). Exceptionally preserved, the bottle has some blackish patina, but is mostly translucent with a silvery, opalescent iridescence and some smaller areas of transparent violet and coppery green. A splendid and colorful example of a less common shape. Height: 3½". Estimate Value $800 - 1,000

Roman Judea, 3rd-4th Century AD, Wide-Mouthed Glass Jar with Trailed Thread Decoration. Fashioned from blown, colorless glass, this twin-handled jar is characterized by a flattened ovoid body, short neck, and wide, funnel mouth with thick, rounded rim and folded flange beneath. Two thick, applied and folded handles appear at the sides, along with a neatly trailed, thin thread encircling the body. Jar with black iridescence, revealing vivid and intense areas of silvery blue, violet, deep lime, and bluish green. Well crafted. Height: 2 3/8".

Roman Judaea, 3rd-4th Century AD. Two-handled Unguentarium with Colored Thread Decoration. Thick-walled and substantial, this cosmetic vessel was blown from light green glass. The bottle has a narrow piriform shape set atop a flat ring foot with a thick-rimmed, wide funnel mouth above. Twin handles of a slightly darker green tone are attached to the rim and pinched and angled at their base. Ornamental threading in dark blue-green trails around from the neck to end as a row of zigzags along the bottom. Intact with some areas of iridescence. Attractive and durable. Height: 4".

Roman Judaea, 3rd-4th Century AD. Unusual Sprinkler Flask. In heavy leaf-green glass with wide funnel mouth with folded throat, a short flaring neck with interior diaphragm, and ovoid body resting on six pinched feet of mixed green and blue colors. Also, blue trailed handles at the side and a notched bluish ring encircles the neck. Intact and apparently perfect with silvery to mottled magenta and green iridescence with areas of intense color. Well made and robust. A rare variant to the usual sprinkler flasks. Height: 4".

Three discreet repairs to the bale, plus a small section of the side handle is missing. Overall preservation is choice with variegated iridescence ranging from matte and transparent to opaque silver with areas flashing of vivid violets and cobalts. An eye catching object of antiquity. Roman Judaea, Circa 4th-6th Century AD, "Baby Feeder" Glass Pitcher. Blown from thick deep leaf green colored glass, the vessel has broad funnel mouth and narrow neck atop a flattened ovoid body. A single trailed handle at the back attaches in two places and the short spout with "fire polished" (i.e. smooth and rounded) edges to its rim. Additional ornament of thin trailed glass ribbon wraps about the enterior of the mouth. Intact and pristine. This remarkable glass vessel is a splendid and exotic example of the ancient glassmaker's craft. Height: 5¾". Estimate Value $800 - 900

Roman Judaea, Circa 4th Century AD., Iridescent Twin-handled Blue-Green Unguentarium. Thick-walled and very robust, this cosmetic vessel was blown in green glass. The bottle is shaped like earlier examples -- narrow, with teardrop shaped body and thin, cylindrical neck -- but on a conical foot. The body bears some vertical ribbing, twisted to form a raised, spiralling ornamentation. Two small handles are attached to the flaring rim and encircling ring below. Minor age crack and trivial ancient chip at the foot. Still, the bottle is stable and sound, with areas of nearly opaque silver and transparent violet iridescence throughout. Scarce. Height: 4¾".
