Lot 151
1794 S-29 R2 PCGS graded MS63 Brown, CAC Approved Gold. Lustrous medium brown and light steel. Another great cent, essentially flawless offering superb eye appeal. The only mark is a barely visible shallow planchet flake on the upper part of the neck (as struck). Satiny mint frost covers all but the very highest points of the hair. It's obvious this cent never saw any circulation, but it may have a touch of "cabinet friction" on the obverse. LDS, Breen state IV, showing all the obverse and reverse die cracks described by Breen. Graded AU55 Choice and tied for CC#3 in the Noyes census, his photo #28023. Bland says AU55 and tied for CC#4. Our grade is AU58+, very close to MS60, and it has the eye appeal of a choice mint state cent. The attribution and Reynolds provenance are noted on the PCGS Secure label. Pop 3; 2 finer at PCGS for the variety, 1 in 64, 1 in 65+. Estimate Value $20,000 - UP

Lot 152
1794 S-43 R2 PCGS graded AU58. Frosty dark steel brown and chocolate. No corrosion or verdigris, only a few dull nicks and microscopic planchet chips from choice. The tiny planchet chips (as struck), are mostly above the head and around ERICA. The contact marks are a dull nick on the E in UNITED, another between that I & T, one more right of the D, and two more on the E in ONE. These marks are not distracting and the eye appeal of this cent is excellent. E-MDS, Breen state II, showing a fine die crack from the dentils through the U to the leaf below and die clashmarks on both sides. In addition there is a fine double profile on the forehead, nose, and lips. Graded AU55 net AU50 and tied for CC#3 in the Noyes census, his photo #34712. Bland says AU50 and tied for CC#3 as well. Our grade is AU50. A great cent that comes with a long provenance of distinguished cent collectors. The attribution and Reynolds provenance are noted on the PCGS Secure label. Pop 2; 1 finer in 58+ at PCGS for the variety. Estimate Value $10,000 - UP

Lot 153
1794 S-65 R1 PCGS graded AU53. Choice glossy chocolate and dark steel brown. This cent is beautiful, essentially flawless showing only light wear while offering outstanding eye appeal. The only notable marks, and it takes a good glass to see them, are two very light scratches in the field before the tip of the nose. M-LDS, Breen state VI early, showing numerous die cracks on both sides including a short one to the left from the bottom of the cap, but the lump on the crack under the second S in STATES has not formed. The second A in AMERICA is weakened by die failure in that area but everything else is nicely impressed. Struck slightly off center to K-1 with the reverse rotated about 15 degrees CW. Graded VF35 and tied for CC#16 in the Noyes census, his photo #37690. Our grade is VF35+ Choice, close to EF40. The attribution and Reynolds provenance are noted on the PCGS Secure label. Pop 2; 5 finer at PCGS for the variety, 4 in 55, 1 in 64. Estimate Value $5,000 - UP

Lot 154
1795 S-78 R1 Plain Edge PCGS graded MS63 Brown. Choice glossy medium steel brown and light chocolate. Satiny mint frost covers all but the highest points of the devices and this cent offers outstanding eye appeal. No spots, stains, or contact marks. The only defects are some of the usual tiny planchet chips seen on these early plain edge planchets, and they are located mostly around UNI and ICA. A tiny planchet flake over the left corner of the eye is the best identifying mark, but it is difficult to see even with a glass. MDS, Breen state III, showing delicate die clashmarks on both sides and a tiny lump on the lower edge of the jaw. Graded MS62 Choice and CC#6 in the Noyes census his photo #21229. Bland says MS61 and tied for CC#5. Our grade is MS62. Comes with an impressive provenance that can be traced back for more than a century. The attribution and Naftzger-Reynolds provenance are noted on the PCGS Secure label. Pop 1; 2 finer at PCGS for the variety, 1 in 63+, 1 in 64. Estimate Value $8,000 - UP
