Lot 1410
1854. PCGS graded Proof 64+. Well struck and nicely toned on both sides with deep and colorful iridescence on the obverse, the reverse with more russet gold hues. This is an important type coin with the Arrows at the date, and these were issued only from 1853 through 1855. Proof mintages for the Arrows coins were extremely limited and all examples are rarities today. It is believed that only 15 examples minted and that perhaps 10 exist today in all grades. This example is clearly one of the finer pieces known today and a coin that would be a welcome addition to any advanced collection. Pop 1; 3 finer in 65. (PCGS # 4743) .
Estimated Value $9,000 - 10,000.

1856. NGC graded Proof 66 Cameo. Lovely blue and lilac toning spans both the obverse and revese of this amazing coin. First off, only 50 pieces are believe to have been minted. From that modest beginning there arearound 35 known today. This is one of the finer examples seen, and one of just a handful that offer the Cameo contrast between the mirror fields and frosted devices. The strike is absolute and precise, with all of the finer nuances of the design crystal clear when examined. The surfaces are also incredible in their preservation, with no distracting nicks or handling marks, and the toning is stunning to see. All Proof 1856 dimes have the Small Date, and these Proofs are all rare and desirable, especially this well preserved. Pop 5; 1 finer in 68.
Estimated Value $11,000 - 12,000.

1857. NGC graded Proof 67. Boldly struck with lovely blue toning on both sides. Only 70 examples minted and this one is tied with a couple of others as the finest seen by either grading service. The eye appeal is stunning, first off because of the towering quality of the surfaces, secondly by the amazing toning which is quite attractive. An extremely desirable example of this prized early Proof coin. Pop 3; none finer at NGC.
