1859. NGC graded MS-65. Well struck and nicely toned. This is a one year type coin because the design was changed in 1860 to modify the wreath and add a small shield at the top. These first year of issue 1859 cents are scarce in Gem and this one is quite attractive. Housed in an Old Style Holder. Pop 158; 12 finer, 1 in 65+, 10 in 66, 1 in 67.

1861. NGC graded Proof 66. Only 1,000 minted. Lovely light toning and boldly struck on each and every device. The toning is a pale blend of purple iridescence with just a few traces of carbon. Clearly this is one of the finest examples to survive in Proof, and is destined for a high end date collection of Indian cents in Proof. A fantastic example! Pop 6; 2 finer, 1 in 66 Star, 1 in 66+ (PCGS # 2256) .

The strike is bold and the surfaces are quite well preserved for a coin that was struck soon after the outbreak of the Civil War. Housed in an Old Style Holder. 1864. Bronze. NGC graded MS-65 Red & Brown. Housed in an Old Style Holder. Golden rose and tan with fiery iridescence on both sides. The surfaces and color are quite nice, with strong original mint red still present despite moderate fading. This is the first appearance of the French bronze composition, which was used through the end of this series. Pop 248; 75 finer, 1 in 65+, 69 in 66, 5 in 67.

1864. Bronze, With "L". PCGS graded MS-66 Red. A wonderful example of this key date. An amazing coin, one of the absolute finest of this date and major variety with "L" on the ribbon and the pointed bust on Liberty. The digits 186 show repunching high which adds further interest. Outstanding Red color, with immediate and full vibrancy on the obverse, and well matched on the reverse. Only a few minor specks are present when examined. The strike is sharp on Liberty's feathers as well as the wreath. It would be hard to even imagine a finer example of this prized issue.This exact coin is pictured on the CoinFacts website to represent the finest seen by PCGS of this prized issue. Don't expect to find a finer example, as this one is tied or the absolute best seen! Pop 4; none finer at PCGS. Tied for the finest examples graded at both services. (PCGS # 2081) .

1909-S. PCGS graded MS-65 Red. CAC Approved. Nice mint red on both sides of this low mintage rarity. Only 309,000 pieces were struck, and this is one of the nicer examples known today. Most have faded in color and show far more evidence of handling. This is the lowest mintage of the Indian cent series, but enough were saved that they can be obtained with patience for a price. Here is one that will bring a strong price in line with its high quality! (PCGS # 2240) .
