Lot 951
1863. PCGS graded MS-64. A nice example with the expected whitish-copper hue, due to the 12 percent nickel included with the 88 percent copper to make these planchets. Nickel as a metal really shines through and almost overwhelms the copper color with this blend. A case in point, for the Three Cent nickel and Five Cent nickel coinage, they appear nickel white, yet nickel is only 25 percent of the composition, the balance is copper! (PCGS # 2067) .
Estimated Value $225 - 250.
