1849 C-1 R2- PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Glossy light to medium chocolate brown with a few tiny peeps of faded mint red on the reverse. The fields are smooth and slightly reflective, and this half cent has excellent eye appeal. The best identifying mark, and it is microscopic, is a tiny chip or void on the bust tip. EDS, Manley state 1.0 early. The die lines from the dentils over NI in UNITED are sharp. In addition the date and most of the stars show clear doubling. Our grade is MS63. 1849 C-1 R2- PCGS graded MS62 Brown. Glossy medium steel brown and chocolate with about 10% of the mint red remaining, mostly on the reverse. The only marks are two small nicks on the bust tip and two small carbon spots hidden at the berries over the right top of the F in HALF. This piece would rate a significantly higher grade but there are a few low spots on the obverse and many more on the reverse, all the result of debris (probably lubricating grease) on the dies. MDS, Manley state 2.0. The obverse fields are covered with very fine vertical die lines from a fresh die polishing. The earlier die lines over NI in UNITED are gone and the reverse is rotated 15 degrees clockwise. Our grade is MS60. The attribution and Green Tree Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Beautiful frosty light to medium chocolate brown and olive with hints of underlying reddish steel brown faded down from mint color in protected areas on the reverse. Very sharply struck showing full radial lines in all the stars and crisp dentils around both sides. Essentially flawless. The best identifying marks, and they are microscopic, are a speck of darker toning off the end of the wreath ribbon and a tiny planchet flake at the leaf under the right foot of the M in AMERICA (as struck). EDS with smooth, hard fields on both sides and fine die lines from the dentils to the tops of NIT plus other very fine die lines at AMERICA. The base of the badly misplaced 1 is clearly visible near the dentils right of the second 1 in the date. Our grade is MS65. 1857 C-1 R2 PCGS graded MS65 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Frosty light to medium steel brown with about 25% of the planchet showing mint color. A very nice half cent, nearly flawless. The only marks are some microscopic specks of darker toning scattered over both sides, and these are only visible with the aid of a strong glass. A tiny planchet flake at the right point of star 1 can help identify this piece. MDS with faint traces of a die polishing line at OF-A. Our grade is MS64.
