1837 Half Cent Hard Times Token Low-49, Rulau HT-73 R2 PCGS graded MS65 Brown. Attractive uniform frosty medium chocolate brown. Nicely struck and nearly flawless. The best identifying marks are a spot of very fine carbon nestled between the S & T in STANDARD and a tiny planchet flake between the tip of the left wing and the adjacent leaf tip (as struck). These tokens are the only half-cent-denominated pieces struck as part of the Hard Times series. While they are not Federal issues, they are often collected as part of the normal Federal series and are included with them in the "Redbook." Our grade is MS60. While lightly worn examples are relatively easy to obtain, true mint state pieces like this one are quite rare. The attribution and Green Tree Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label.
