The notable ones are a small rim nick under the 8 and a few microscopic ones over the second T in STATES. Rare VEDS, die state a early. The repunching under the 1 is sharp and the fine die lines on the reverse are clear. A premium example of this tough die state. Estimate Value $600 - UP

1853 N-26 R2 PCGS graded MS65 Brown, CAC Approved. Lustrous medium steel brown and light chocolate. Satiny mint frost covers the planchet and the eye appeal is excellent. The notable marks are a couple tiny spots of darker chocolate brown toning above star 8 and a few tiny rim nicks over NITE. Sharply struck EDS, die state a. All the fine die lines and points at ON and CEN in ONE CENT are clear. Our grade is MS60+. Tied for CC#9 honors in the Grellman census for the variety but third finest of the early die state. Satiny mint luster covers the fields and protected areas on both sides and this cent offers excellent eye appeal. Looks choice but there is a collection of microscopic hairline scratches in the field left of star 11 and a stain on the rim at IT in UNITED. MDS, die state b early. The die lines at the throat and inner curl are dull but still visible and the dull wave through the tops of TES is just starting to show. Our grade is MS60, tied for CC#10 in the Grellman census. The only marks are a light, barely visible scratch down under the ear lobe and another nearly horizontal one on the jaw. Neither mark is visible without the aid of a good glass and the eye appeal of this cent is excellent. E-MDS, die state a late. The fields on both sides are covered with fine radial die flowlines. The only notable defects are some microscopic specks of darker toning on the obverse and a planchet flake in the dentils at the bottom of the reverse (as struck). LDS, die state c. Only a trace of an earlier vertical die line from the dentils under the 54 remains visible and clear doubling shows on the O in ONE. Our grade is MS60+, tied for CC#6 in the Grellman census. 1854 N-30 R6- EF45. This looks like a choice red & brown mint state cent, but it has a bit of very light friction on the highpoints and has been beautifully recolored. Glossy olive and steel brown with lustrous mellowed red covering the protected areas on both sides. No spots or stains. The only marks are a few tiny ticks on the cheek and neck, none significant. EDS. The repunching under the 185 is dull and faint, but the tiny die lines on the reverse are clear. CC#5 of 26 known of this rare variety in the Grellman census. Estimate Value $1,500 - UP

Possibly retoned long ago but the eye appeal is excellent. The only notable marks are a thin arc of darker steel toning through TED-STATES-OF-A and a short, light scratch well hidden in the hair under ER in LIBERTY. EDS, die state a. The dies are sharp and fine diagonal die lapping lines cover the obverse fields. This is the discovery coin for the die variety; confirmed by Reiver and Bland in 11/1980. Our grade is MS60, CC#1 in the Grellman census. And it comes with an important provenance. The attribution and Iskra provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Pop 1; 1 finer in 64. Large Cent Stage II Blank Planchet for 1835-1843 AU50. Glossy medium brown. A few very minor planchet imperfections (the minor flaws nearly always present on blank planchets which usually disappear when the planchet is struck) plus a small spot of dark chocolate toning surrounding a speck of reddish carbon. The rims are upset but very narrow, which is consistent with the planchets used to strike the cents of 1835-1843 (Petite Heads). Weight 165.9 grains. Estimate Value $500 - UP
