Lot 1644		1879-S. Reverse of 1879. PCGS graded MS-65 Deep Mirror Prooflike. A blazing white DMPL. Housed in an Old Green Holder. Pop 150; 54 finer, 46 in 66, 8 in 67. (PCGS # 97093) Side Note: DMPL (Deep Mirror Prooflike, or "dimple" for short) coins are regular Morgan Dollars that were struck for circulation but have unusually frosted legends and devices and very reflective, mirror-like, fields on both the obverse and reverse. There are coins that are heavy DMPL, meaning that they are very frosted/mirrored, and coins that are light DMPL, meaning they are not completely frosted/mirrored. Such coins occur most frequently during the pre-1883 run of San Francisco dollars. They are often worth considerably more than a typical lustrous coin by the same grade. (Morgan dollars which have surfaces that are reflective but are not deeply mirrored enough to qualify for the Deep Mirror Proof Like designation are called simply "Prooflike." No need to worry about an unsuccessful strike left by the rebound of the dies that coined this handsome CC Mint Morgan Silver Dollar, since even a cursory examination of the piece reveals nice clarity of detail, including the centers. We doubt if many could come a mile and a half of this nearly perfect MS67 specimen in terms of originality and color. Lot 1668		1892-CC. NGC graded MS-63. The strike on this issue is nearly always somewhat problematic centering on Liberty�s ear, and the present MS63 is no exception. The obverse is vibrant with silvery white frostiness, however. Lot 1669		1892-S. NGC graded UNC Details. Improperly cleaned. Needle sharp within fully defined breast feathers. Light antique toning rests about the borders on both sides. A light mark appears before the ear and some faint hairlines appear under strong magnification under a light source. Only 1.2 million Morgan Silver Dollars were made at the San Francisco Mint in 1892, and nearly all of these went into circulation. The mintage itself makes for a curious tale, since each and every month of the year saw exactly 100,000 coins minted. One can only guess why. Occasional Mint State would be found with other dates, but apparently not even a single bag of Mint State 1892-S dollars have been discovered since the late 1920s, when a bag (or possibly more) was paid out at the San Francisco Mint according to rumors. Few cared back then.
