Lot 1434
1892. PCGS graded MS-67. CAC Approved. Wonderful rainbow toning on both sides. Bright silver color bursts forth from its hiding place behind the colorful toning on this handsome coin whose original surfaces remain unmarred post-striking handling. A strong strike as expected for a Philadelphia Mint issue, making this a desirable superb specimen. Incorporating the familiar Barber design of 1892 to 1916, this displays a precision strike on the legends and main device, which is always appreciated by buyers of high-quality coins, and not even a trace of soft detail at Liberty or eagle. Pop 23; 4 finer, 1 in 67+, 2 in 68, 1 in 68+. (PCGS # 5601) Estimated Value $5,000 - 5,500

Lot 1435
1895. PCGS graded Proof 67 Cameo. CAC Approved. Only 880 struck. Marvelous Cameo contrast. Bright satin finish devices surrounded by rolling mirror fields, mimicing the light that glints off it, reflecting it back into your eyes; the field sparkles as when first issued. Barber Quarters of this caliber are difficult to find, to say the least (notice the low census). Something perhaps worth pausing to study as well is the fact that all devices were struck with the usual and desirable consistency of Proof coinage this year, that is, sharply by the dies, which then left behind bold elements of detail throughout. Pop 4; 6 finer, 2 in 67+, 4 in 68 (PCGS # 85681) Estimated Value $4,000 - 4,500

Lot 1436
1898. NGC graded MS-68. Star. CAC Approved. One of the highest graded non-proof Barber Quarters to exist. In addition, the colors are absolutely stunning. Charles E. Barber's coinage was made its debut in 1892 after a long span when the familiar Seated Liberty ruled the roost (1838-91). Barbers were coined yearly thereafter through 1916. Annual Proofs were what early collectors sought, however. For business strikes such as the present piece, we owe a salute of thanks to some long ago farsighted collector who had the temerity, the utter disdain for Proofs, to collect lowly circulation strikes. (Here we are speaking tongue in cheek.) This 1898 Barber Quarter is remarkable, alluring, and boasts fantastically lustrous surfaces whose sparkle beneath multicolored toning of varying depth brings out the full beauty of the piece like nothing else. Everything about the color is iridescent. One almost wants to say effervescent. And the portrait has a smooth clean cheek to go with the Liberty's bold, crisp relief. Consider it solidly struck, and essentially as fine any product the mint could make on its electric-motor operated coining presses back then. Its 1890s status adds to the appeal as the supreme type coin. Pop 1; none finer at NGC. Estimated Value $15,000-UP

1898. PCGS graded Proof 67 Deep Cameo. Blast white perfection! Only 735 struck. Aesthetically appealing, a handsome full strike Superb Gem Proof bristling with bright mint bloom and without toning. Proofs tend to come well struck, of course. And unlike business strikes which have the faintest touch of weakness at the centers, this exemplary coin is bold. All stars needle-sharp as well. An endearing specimen for the Barber Quarter aficionado. Pop 10; 8 finer, 6 in 68, 1 in 68+, 1 in 69 (PCGS # 95684) Estimated Value $4,000 - 5,000

1901. PCGS graded Proof 65. CAC Approved. Turquoise and electric blue iridescent toning grace the surfaces on both sides. Only 813 struck. A sparkling coin bursting with mirror reflection streaming through the toning and gorgeous in appearance. The surfaces are clear of marks. Taking stock of another key element of the grade, this piece has knife-edged devices throughout, including centers, rather than a soft, mushy strike as most often seen on the business strike issue. Pop 27; 28 finer, 19 in 66, 8 in 67, 1 in 68 (PCGS # 5687) Estimated Value $1,600 - 1,700

1909. PCGS graded Proof 66 Cameo. Blast white. Only 650 struck. A lustrous example that has dazzling snow white brilliance, the devices capped off by beautiful cameos, the surrounding field deep and watery. A great deal of stress is laid on the strike detail of these, and this piece is bold on all devices. Put this charmer in your rare coin collection. Although be prepared for bidding rivalry from others who like it. Pop 12; 5 finer, 3 in 67, 2 in 67+ (PCGS # 85695) Estimated Value $3,000 - 3,300
