Lot 209
1802 NC-1 R5+ VG7. Several points sharper but very slightly bent, and there are some small nicks scattered over the obverse. The bend is subtle and easily missed, and the eye appeal is decent for the grade. Rather glossy chocolate and olive brown. EDS, Breen state I, before the bisecting die crack on the obverse. The date and legends are complete and easily readable. Estimated Value $300-UP

Lot 217
1803 S-264 R4+ Large Date, Small Fraction Fair-2. Sharpness G6, even better on the reverse, but this cent has been banged up quite a bit. It is bent, slightly rough, and has some significant rim dents. On the good side of the ledger the date and legends remain readable (including the Small Fraction) and the color is a decent and somewhat glossy chocolate and bluish steel fading to darker olive brown in protected areas. LDS, Breen state III, with heavy swelling at STA where the die has cracked and produced a significantly raised retained cud. An acceptable hole-filler for the very tough Large Date/Small Fraction type. Estimated Value $1,000-UP

1803 NC-1 R5+ VG8. Sharpness F12 but covered with fine granularity. No verdigris and only minor contact marks including a small pinprick near the rim off the lower end of the hair ribbon and a planchet chip right of the D in UNITED. Slightly glossy steel brown and chocolate blending to olive brown in protected areas. EDS, Breen state I, before any die cracks. The date is easily readable although the 18 is weak, and the legends are clear. Called net VG7 in the Bland and Noyes census lists. Estimated Value $1,500-UP

1804 S-266c R2 Fair-2. Glossy chocolate brown and steel with smooth, nearly choice surfaces. This piece is a solid AG3 cent with one exception: the date is worn off and someone decided to carefully scratch in a new one. Not smart, but it is what it is. LDS, Breen state IV, with strong cud breaks at RTY and MERIC. A nice hole filler for this tough date. Estimated Value $500-UP
