Longfellow, Henry W. - Autograph Letter Signed Re German Translations of His Poetry, With Holograph Cover (1807-1882) American poet and educator; his poems include "Paul Revere's Ride," "The Song of Hiawatha," and "Evangeline." Autograph letter signed "Henry W. Longfellow," one page, 6¾ x 4¼", Cambridge, Jan. 31, 1861. To an unknown correspondent, sending "a list of such German translations of my Poems as I have seen. [list not present] It is nearly complete; though not by one hand." Outer margins are lighter than the letter, which is toned from a previous framing. Accompanied by a cover of a later date, addressed in Longfellow's hand to Edward S. Pierce in Boston. The cover was printed by the Continental Bank Note Co., perforated 12, of white wove paper, with a 2¢ stamp; toned with some soiling. Estimate Value $250 - 350

Sendak, Maurice; Outstanding Original Illustration Signed. Where The Wild Things Are (1928-2012) Beloved American illustrator and writer of children's books. Maurice Sendak became widely known for his book Where the Wild Things Are, first published in 1963 as well as In The Night Kitchen published in 1970. Sendak won virtually every award relating to children's literature and illustrations. Children and adults responded with overwhelming enthusiasm in his work as to how children develop their feelings and manage to come to grips with the realities of their lives. Offered here is an exceptional, original 12 x 9½" ink and colored pencil illustrations of one of his Where The Wild Things Are, fantasy creatures "The Bull". This illustration has been beautifully archived and is virtually mint, a gorgeous hand-drawn illustration with a bold signature of Sendak in black ink.
