4 Early Apollo Handbooks, Support and Flight Operations Plans April-June 1966. 4 manuals all relating to the early Apollo program these manuals release April-June 1966 prior to the AS-203 unmanned test flight. 1.) Operational Support Plan handbook addressing operational ground rules, mission profiles, mission support analysis and the like dated April 1, 1966. 2.) Flight Operations Plan workbook, including control functions, test objectives, pre-launch and launch phases, spacecraft separations and much more dated May 1, 1966. 3.) Three volume set of Apollo Lunar Landing Mission Symposium June 25-27, 1966, a three day Symposium to go over extensive mission plans, critical reviews and answer questions after each review of papers. Impressive details. 4.) Command/Service Module systems handbook CSM 108 - CSM 111 dated 10/1/69 containing a considerable amount of fold-out schematics, graphs and charts of great detail involving virtually every physical function of the module. The three volume set remain as originally bound with large staple binding, the other manuals carefully removed from three-ring binders and rubber banded as when filed. Estimate Value $300 - 400

3 Collections of NASA Photos From Apollo to the Shuttle Missions Including 25 From Deke Slayton. From Deke Slayton ASTP, 1975, a lot of of over 25 NASA 8 x 10 color glossy photos taken during the flight including the crews autographing one of the mission "certificates", Slayton perusing a checklist, the approaching Soyuz capsule, experiment photos (including fish eggs) and earth views. All photos have red NASA ID numbers and are in excellent condition. These photos were originally part of the Deke Slayton collection and are stamped on the back accordingly.
STS-51D, 1985, NASA JSC a very nice lot of 8 x 10 color photos by photographer and technician Terry Sleazak. There is a Slezak signed, handwritten COA included that reads: "The making of a crew picture! STS-51D final crew photograph and an alternate crew picture and a humorous crew photograph". There are a total of six photos plus a final negative included. Slezak was the photographer of the crew photo. Only one final photo (S85-25871) is marked with an ID number. The others are blank or marked "Sample" in red ink,
Finally a miscellaneous, c1960//1970s, of over 50 NASA photos and lithographs 8 x 10" color and black/white lithographs, photos, etc. We note Apollo 8, 11, Skylab, and other pieces included. Generally nice condition. Estimate Value $200 - 400

A preliminary crew checklist for Apollo flights prepared by North American Aviation, Inc., Space and Information Systems Division. This detailed and multi-sectioned (16 tabbed topics) workbook addresses backup and prime crew prelaunch checks, aborts, system management, orbits/deorbits, general procedures, and numerous other functions. This work book was prepared September 16, 1966 with changes executed on September 29, 1966 under the heading Crew Abbreviated Checklist Mission AS-204A Apollo SC012. Rare Thrust-To-Weight Indicator Used to Measure and Display Acceleration During Lunar Landing. From the Lunar Excursion Module Simulator (LEMS) used at the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston Texas, this T/W Indicator (thrust-to-weight) was a device which consisted of a moving pointer on a fixed vertical scale illuminated by an electroluminescent lamp. The scale was calibrated from 0 to6 lunar g and hermetically sealed in a magnesium enclosure. The inside mechanism was a simple accelerometer consisting of a seismic mass, guide rods, a cord, a pulley, a calibration spring, a damper assembly and a pointer assembly. 4½ x 2 x 1½". Great condition and comes with photo as it appeared in test console, and technical specs. Estimate Value $300 - 500

Diverse collection of materials related to the early days of the US Space Program. Included are 1.) Donald "Deke" K. Slayton handwritten tests and papers (4 total) while a student pilot and engineer at the USAF Experimental Flight Test School at Edwards AFB, California in the mid-1950s, 2.) a press release regarding and early sample of Velcro from Space Associates, Houston, Texas, 3.) a 1969 Apollo/Saturn V (KSC-NASA 1969) original engineering log of pencil notes of live recordings and daily event activities of a Moon rocket engineer at Launch Complex 39 supporting that year's Apollo 9-12 systems operations, 4.) Three vintage original patches from 1969 one of Apollo 12 boasting one of the best logos of all Apollo missions, a US Flag patch and NASA logo patch, 5.) Two original 2 " segments of a used computer circuit board that had been used for a checkout/launch control console in support of Apollo/Saturn V launch vehicle, 6.) Nice Archive and History of Hybrid Microcircuit Development at NASA, Former Engineer's Collection. Nice collection of microcircuits developed at NASA (after the Mercury and Gemini programs) which suffered frequently anomalies (failures) due to their inability to stress and vibration levels. Here from a microelectronics technician hired in 1966 at the Manned Spacecraft Center. Offered is a broad collection of circuits in various degrees of development complete with two Coas and descriptions. Virtually step by step text and examples on the construction of this era of circuit construction that drive today's technology based on the progress and improvements made by NASA in the mid-1960s. Besides the detailed Coas many of the pieces have handwritten notations for their specific steps in the process. Compelling history here we've never had the opportunity to offer. Apollo 1 Important Lunar Module Handbooks, Team Console Procedures and Extensive System Analyses. From the 204/LM-1 Mission Team, three work books addressing many aspects of this particular endeavor used by the Flight Director. First a compilation of extensive systems and analyses with numerous fold-out schematics and console circuitry, sensors, and electronics assembly with extensive handwritten notations. Second a flight check, all pages printed on cardstock, tabbed and sectioned for immediate reference, again with many handwritten notation. Finally an EECOM Team Console Procedure, consisting of supplementary information on the console, special processing and review of the validity of the procedures. Apollo 1, Paul Haney "AS204 Accident" Confidential Documents & Photos of the Tragedy. Paul Haney (1929-2009) was best known as the voice of NASA's mission control for his live commentary during the Gemini and Apollo space flights in the 1960s. Offered here 50 years after the tragedy is an unusual compilation report of NASA Press Releases relating to the Apollo 1 flash fire as sent to Haney with the label "Sensitive/Eyes Only". The purpose was to prevent differing causation releases being made by the various Public Information Offices of NASA. Also included are various cables and documents as received relating to the accident and a packet of 20+ 4 x 6" color photos of the Command Module after the fire, each with forensic notations on verso. along with a March 1966 letter from Rick Boos. Somewhat mixed condition, but a real insider's view of the tragedy. Estimate Value $1,500 - UP

Scarce Apollo 1 (AS-204) Vintage Patch Plus a Post-Apollo 1 Test Sample of Fire Resistant Insulation for Wiring. Two Apollo 1 (AS-204) related pieces in the offer. First a scarce Apollo 1 vintage original patch with impeccable provenance and COA. The second is an example of the Post Apollo of the progress made in the insulation and fire safety of electrical wiring after the January 27, 1967 tragedy inside the Apollo 1 Command Module. The pair of wires sample shows the Kapton film developed by Dupont used as an insulator for electrical wiring. The other material is Teflon coated fiberglass lacing tape used to tie groups of wires and cables into bundles. Comes attached to COA with detailed information. Estimate Value $600 - 800

Fascinating information. The balance of the lot consists of magazine clippings, NASA "Apollo 7 Mission / 15 Day Report", NASA Apollo 7 Mission / Anomaly and Failure Listing Report", a message from Dean Martin, "Apollo 7 Commentary" and more of Paul Haney's notes. Two autographs from Apollo 10 mission to the Moon which was a rehearsal of the Apollo 11 first manned lunar landing space flight without actually landing. Cernan and Stafford piloted the lunar module nicknamed Snoopy for 8 hours and proved man's closest approach to the moon before the actual landing. Offered is an excellent presentation sheet that includes two inset black and white NASA 70mm transparencies with the page signed boldly at the bottom by Tom Stafford. Gene Cernan has signed SpaceShots trading card complimented with a full handwritten appendix page executed on onion skin paper from his master's degree submitted October, 1963. Offered is an excellent signature by Armstrong next to his image in the program for his Distinguished Achievement Award by The Wings Club on 10/19/76 in New York as commander of the historic Apollo 11 lunar mission. Program page measures 9½ x 8¼" printed on cream paper, his signature in blue ball point and exceptionally bold. Each of the three men hand-signed next to their portraits, Armstrong in black ink, and Aldrin and Collins in blue ink; Aldrin added "Apollo XI LMP" below his signature. A First Man on the Moon 10¢ airmail stamp is affixed to the litho, with First Day and Moon Landing cancels. The litho was made by NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, 1969. Over 75 Photographs and Letter To Buzz Aldrin and Reply, Personal Collection of The Flight Director. Two notebooks of over 75 NASA photos 18 in black & white from the personal collection of the Flight Director on many of the missions pictured. Images from the early 60s to the 80s quite a few of these are images we have rarely if ever seen. Great images of Mission Control over the years. Also included is a handprinted letter to Buzz Aldrin from the Flight Director dated 19 January 1971 expressing his sadness of Aldrin leaving the Space Center and the director declaring his assignment as the descent and ascent telcom on Apollo 11 "as the most significant single event in my life". Buzz Aldrin replies in his hand along the bottom "Thanks for all your help, Don". Also the collection contains several certificates awarded to the Flight Director and other interesting pieces. Even more compelling reading are the Post-Mission Operations Reports of which there are two with many notations and departmental memos, transcripts, breakdowns of the explosions, and timelines. Apollo 13-14 Lunar Map Book of Fra Mauro Crater Area Used In Training; 36 B&W Photos, Fold-Out Map. Remarkable map and photos taken by Apollo 12 with numerous notations by hand of the Fra Mauro crater area of the moon which was the site originally for Apollo 13, obviously aborted due to the oxygen tank explosion. Site plan was re-visited and successful with Apollo 14. Original NASA photographs show the lunar landscape at various degrees of tilt, craters identified by hand. At front of workbook is a fold out map with vellum overlay with areas mapped by hand in various colored pencils. Overall in very fine used condition and truly an impressive technical work book.
