Lot 360		After Giambologna (Jean Boulogne). Mercury This magnificent sculpted bronze of a leaping Mercury was crafted in France during the late 19th century after the work of Giambologna (Jean Boulogne), sculptor to the Medici family. An amazing homage to Giambologna's Mercury (c. 1580) which is housed in the Bargello Museum in Florence, this work is from the noted Elton John collection which was sold for charity at Sotheby's, London in 2003. Cast with the grace and balance mirroring the original, difficulty cast three-dimensional work by the 16th century master, Mercury, the swift messenger of the ancient Roman gods, glides on air from the cheeks of the cherub at his feet, with wings from his staff, traveler's helmet and feet.; bronze; rich dark brown patina; height: 35" (89cm.); base: 4 3/8" (11cm.); inscribed by the foundry: F. BARBEDIENNE FONDER, incised with the number 108 with the A. COLLAS REDUCTION MECANIQUE pastille and the title plaque MERCURE/ PAR JEAN DE BOLGNE/ (BARBEDIENNE FONDEUR). Lot 361		Binder, Erwin. Nebula 2. (1934-1993) Veteran of the United States Air Force, Binder learned to work with metal and stone and elements of design as an employee at his family's jewelry business. With a passionate desire to develop those skills further, he enrolled at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles and subsequently produced numerous monumental public sculptures throughout Southern California in the 1970s and 1980s. He was also deeply influenced by Mexican culture, most notably the surreal portrait work of José Clemente Orozco, when working with bronze, onyx and stone. Offered is here is a dramatic sculpture of banded onyx entitled Nebula 2. Only one of two carved in the early 80s, the sculpture is typical of Binder's lyrical, abstract style, which always maintained vestiges of figuration. Here, his sinuous, organic creation of a mother and child together as one in the universe, whether one interprets that as cocoon, a womb or even a shell. Striking yet calming, sculpture alone measures 16 x 23x 10" and appears to balance on a 15 x 18 x 4" marble base. Sculpture is sold with a custom built 17 x 20 x 27" wood base. A very special piece by a most admired Los Angeles artist whose works can be seen in public spaces and collections throughout Southern California. Lot 362		C. B. Female Torso. Excellent contemporary bronze sculpture of a nude, female torso with cream and brown patina on polished black marble base. Artist unknown. This is a limited edition piece of (3/9) graceful as it is striking. Sculpture itself measures 22½ x 7" and including the base, 29½". Nicely balanced on base this sophisticated piece will compliment any decor. In excellent condition. Sculpture will be packed un-bolted from base for safe shipping weighing just at 32 pounds. Lot 363		Myer, Richard. The Fury. The Fury (1933 -) Schooled at Brigham Young University, moved to New York City to further his art studies and now a resident in California. Richard Myer's experience with the lost wax process of casting his bronzes is now approaching 40 years and his works can be found in most Western art galleries throughout the United States. Well regarded for his detail and sense of movement his artistry can clearly be seen in this impressive bronze. A Native American is seen atop his rearing horse hurling some sort of cape or blanket. 27 x 18 x 9" it is #7 of a limited edition of 24, name inscribed and sits on a swivel wood base with title and artist and the year, 1976, inscribed on small brass plaque. Originally purchased in 1981 at Copenhagen Galleri, Solvang, CA. Bronze, in excellent condition, 12 pounds and some slight nicks to wood base.
