Lot 227
1783 Washington Unity States Breen-1188 Baker-1 VF35. Choice glossy medium brown and light chocolate with traces of frosty tan in protected areas. Smooth and very attractive, just lightly worn on the devices. The planchet is nicer than usual with just a few of the pre-striking planchet "faux-circulation marks" that are always seen near the dentils on both sides. (The marks were intentionally added to the planchets prior to striking to give the appearance that these relatively lightweight pieces had already been accepted in commerce, even when they were uncirculated). Listed on page 82 in the "Redbook." Estimate Value $500 - UP

The Heard provenance is noted on the PCGS label. Listed on page 82 in the "Redbook." Estimate Value $1,000 - UP

Lot 229
(1795) Washington Liberty & Security Penny Breen-1254 PCGS graded VF30. Variety with the usual ASYLUM edge. Rather glossy dark olive brown and steel with frosty golden tan in protected areas on both sides. Apparently this is one of the few gilt examples mentioned by Breen, and it saw some circulation. There is a tiny diagonal nick high on the cheek and a few light contact marks in the field before the portrait, none significant. The Heard provenance is noted on the PCGS label. Listed on page 86 in the "Redbook." Estimate Value $750 - UP
