1797. 9 stars left, 7 right, small letters. B-2, BB-72, Rarity 4. PCGS graded AU-53. Light hint of tone on both sides with the centers bright silver with a few flashes of vibrant blue around the rimson the reverse. There are only three die pairings for 1797, two with the obverse stars arranged 9 by 7--one with Large Letters on the reverse, and this one with Small Letters on the reverse. The other obvese die has the stars arranged 10 by 6 surrounding Liberty. This Small Letters vareity is clearly the rarest of the three, and finding an example this well preserved is quite difficult. A prize for the specialist. Only 7,776 struck. Pop 1; none finer at PCGS for the variety. (PCGS # 40005) Estimate Value $40,000 - 45,000

1802. Narrow date. B-6, BB-241, Rarity 1. NGC graded AU-55. Frosty and mostly untoned. Only 41,650 struck, and this is certainly one of better examples known today. Rarely found this nice, and seldom appreciably finer. Pop 30; 77 finer at NGC. Estimate Value $8,000 - 8,500
