1804 Small 8 Over Large 8 BD-6 Rarity 5. NGC graded AU-58 Mint Error. Interesting obverse struck through of a thread that laid on the planchet when struck, extending from the forecurl on Liberty's should to the Y of LIBERTY. Both sides exhibits an appealing touch of golden toning with a trifle of magenta hues here and there typical of early gold coinage. A tough die pairing to find at all, and with thestrong repunching on the 8 where two different sized punches were used to create this obverse die. Estimate Value $8,000 - 9,000
